Safety and risks
The safety of riding the Swerv has been one of our top priorities when developing and testing the Swerv. All leisure vehicles come with risks. It is important to understand the main risks when riding the Swerv and take precautions accordingly. From our testing data we are confident that Swervs are generally safe to use due to its low centre of gravity, large cambered wheels and having three points of contact to the ground making it a stable design. This arguably makes the Swerv a lot safer than e-scooters and even e-bikes.
Rolling
Main risk that could cause minor injuries is if the Swerv is turned or braked too vigorously which can cause it to roll. Rolling on grass has never resulted in an injury, rolling on asphalt has resulted in a minor injury. To mitigate this risk we recommend turning and breaking gently especially when going at top speeds. To ensure the safety of the rider further we would recommend riders always wear a helmet when riding the
What if I crash?
We have had over 4000 test riders for the Swerv in various public locations in Brighton and Hove. In very rare instances riders have crashed at around 25km/h walking away unharmed. As the Swerv has a front nose that extends beyond the riders head by around 30 - 50cm’s these collisions have resulted in no injuries, keeping their heads safe.
Visibility on roads
We only recommend using the pedal assist road legal Swerv on roads. If you are likely to buy one for road usage, a flag will be provided to be more visible to car drivers. Generally if a car is approaching from behind they have always been able to see the Swerv as it takes up more space on the road compared to an escooter or e-bike.
