Hi! It’s me! The one writing this blog post and all other blog posts. I’m a one man band who designs the Swervs and makes them. A lot of people ask, “what inspired you to make the Swerv?”. Although I touch on this on previous blog posts I think the answer to this question reveals who I am the best. Yes I am an engineer, my name is Kerim, I graduated from Imperial College London Design Engineering (MSc), I’m half British, half Turkish and I love to make things. But what is it that really drives me? I think that matters the most. The driving force behind the Swerv. And no, I’m not talking about the battery or motor. I’m talking about the reason I wake up every morning.

I’m obsessed with life. As kids we remember days full of life and energy. Peace that no one could really disturb. As I grew up, worries and anxieties started to creep into my life. Will I get good enough grades? What do others think of me? Etc. you know the usual insecurities we start to feel burdened by. The life force that once was gushing through us starts to dim. We seek answers and work hard, stress ourselves out to have what’s on the outer. Surface level achievements whilst we forsake the gift and what we already had. The thing about the gifts we’re given, is that no matter how hard we try once we lose them, we can’t really recreate them, only try to get back in touch with them.

The point I’m trying to make is I got so obsessed with outer achievements and successes that I too neglected the gifts within me growing up. Now I have my engineering degree and experience with designing and making things. I want to reinvigorate my senses, my sense of joy, passion and play. As adults we don’t have to let go of these. Sure we have more responsibilities but the biggest one is to ourselves and the little child within us that we once were. And that’s why I feel so strongly about the Swerv. It’s whimsical, a bit silly but also really fun, almost like telling the world “I couldn’t give a crap about what you think of me right now, I’m having fun.” Ofcourse, responsibly…

So that’s me in a nutshell, a design engineer who loves to feel life to the full. Bring unique experiences in to the world that can help us feel in touch with the little child within us.
